The week before Thanksgiving I pull out all of my favorite cookbooks for seasonal inspiration. While most of my books are old friends, I’m always ready to add new ones to the group. This year my go to girl is Julia Reed and her new book Julia Reed’s South: Spirited Entertaining and High-Style Fun All Year Long. The consummate hostess and lifestyle expert, no one embodies the rollicking spirit of great Southern party giving more than Julia.
I knew Julia was a kindred spirit when I heard her give credit to entertaining expert Lee Bailey and his brilliant book Lee Baily’s Country Weekends (my old standby). Baily’s books have long been my secular bible in the kitchen.
I will readily admit, that I love she is not afraid to use Pepperidge Farm thin white bread for her mock cheese soufflé and that she has served Popeye’s fried chicken at a dinner party (done that!). I have a feeling this book is going to sit next to all of my cherished books for a very long time. Below are a few images that have inspired me this week.
If you are in the Houston area, join me, Julia Reed, Danielle Rollins and Robert Leleux for a panel discussion on Holiday Entertaining - Southern Style
